When using Windows at home or in office, you many feel that your current hard drive is not sufficient enough to hold all the required data. If this occurs, the best solution that you can go for is to add an additional hard disk drive and install it.

Windows 8 desktop computers can accept a second hard drive as long as they have multiple SATA/PATA ports to allow users to install other SATA/PATA devices (hard disk drives/CD/DVD-ROM drives), the task is much easier than it was before due to limited ports. Laptops rarely have space for a second hard drive and can go the external hard drive route.

Firstly, connect the second hard disk to the computer physically via the power cable.  Just connect one end of the data cable to its respective port in the hard disk drive and the other one to the appropriate contriller present on the motherboard.

Then to initialize and partition the hard disk by following the steps given below:

Step 1: Login to Windows 8 computer on which a new hard disk is physically connected.

Note: Make sure that you use an administrator account to logon.

Step 2: From the given option available on the applications “Click on Desktop”.click-on-desktop

Step 3: right-click on the “Computer icon” and from the context menu that appears click on “Manage” option.
